Frequently Asked Questions

There are many reasons why this may be happening. Loose connections or the lack of branch circuits are two different examples that may pose a potential fire hazard. Be sure to get this reviewed as soon as you identify this as an issue.

Qualified electricians are the best contact to identify the age of wiring. Get in contact with our team to inspect your wiring to determine its status and we can establish a set maintenance scheduled to ensure you don’t have any faulty wiring into the future.

You can receive an electrical defect notice if your connection to the electricity network doesn’t meet safety standards. They are primarily issued by your distributor based on inspections they undertake.

There can be a variety of reasons why you’d receive an electrical defect notice, but the most common are:
  • Incorrect or faulty wiring
  • Recent alterations or additions to the connection
  • Trees or branches growing too close to electrical wires on the property
  • Random inspections and audits carried out by the distributors
  • Recent alterations or additions to the connection that do not comply
  • Faulty or damaged meter panel (including exposed wiring or the meter panel rotten/falling off)
  • Old, faulty, or incorrect mains wiring
  • Burnt out or damage to the mains box (this is the box that connects power from the premises to the street)

The power distributor usually gives you 28 days to act depending on the severity of the fault. Sometimes they may disconnect power straight away if it’s posing a safety risk.

Don’t wait until the day before the deadline, because the repairs might not be done in time. Please give QV Electrical a call straight away so we can assist and advise you of the best way forward.

Your circuit breaker will need an upgrade when it becomes faulty due to wear and tear or an electrical issue. You should always get frequent electrical checks to ensure optimal performance.
